Founder Notes
Notes from the Operator
Field notes on building companies that survive their founder. Doctrine, breakdowns, frameworks, and the occasional confession. Launching soon.
What Founder Notes Will Cover
Founder Notes will cover the operating side of founder-led companies: founder dependency, fragmentation, and the systems that let a company run without the founder in every decision.
- Busy Is Not a Business ModelIf your calendar is the proof your company works, the company does not work yet.
- The Glue TaxEvery dollar you save by being the glue, you pay back in margin and sleep.
- Designing the Hand-OffWork that cannot be handed off is work the company cannot scale.
Each note is written by Wes Struebing, a third-generation operator with 40 years in logistics, freight, operations and founder-led companies. His grandfather founded Westlake Moving Systems in 1934.
The thinking behind the notes is already on the site. Start with the eight frameworks, take The Moron Test (three laws, one question), or read the anonymized stories in the Hall of Failed Systems.
